Scott

Scott Putman is a choreographer, movement specialist, educator, director, writer, and movement wellness coach with a 30-year career spanning professional dance, academia, and somatic innovation. He weaves Traditional Chinese Medicine, Thai Medicine, Neuro Energetic Kinesiology, Internal Martial Arts, and Equine-Assisted Learning together with contemporary ballet and modern technique — helping students and clients rewire neuromuscular pathways, expand range of motion, and access a more authentic, embodied expression.

Scott holds a BFA in Dance and Choreography from Columbia College and an MFA from UC Irvine, where his research explored the parallels between modern physics and eastern philosophy as tools for movement training. He danced professionally with companies including Mordine and Company Dance Theater, Ballet Theater of Chicago, Minnesota Ballet, and Demetrius Klein Dance Company, and choreographed independently and through his own company, Cerulean Dance Theater. He went on to spend 22 years on the dance faculty at Virginia Commonwealth University, teaching across the technical and creative curriculum.

Scott is the creator of the Elemental Body Alignment System© (EBAS) and Fundamental Conscious Movement (FCM), both taught at VCU and now central to Emerald Energetics, his coaching practice spanning Movement, Sound, Light, and Equine-Assisted Wellness (certified through Eponaquest). He continues to choreograph original work through Amaranth Contemporary Dance and creates kinetic landscapes for companies and universities internationally.

Scott brings EBAS into the world through two collaborations at the intersection of animals and movement. He is a collaborative founder of Two Loves Sanctuary, a community-focused refuge for animals and humans dedicated to care, connection, wellness, and authentic expression, with roots in Charleston, San Francisco, and Richmond. He also partners with The Care Ranch, a non-profit bringing EBAS into equine-facilitated Leadership Retreats in Wageningen, Holland, and at Tubac Ranch in Tubac, Arizona, as part of the organization's holistic journey toward well-being.
